Don’t get us wrong, we’re all about democracy and the electoral process – for the real world. But the imaginary world of General Hospital – and its real-life writers and producers – need to get something through their heads.
The fans are really, really tired of elections. General elections, local elections, special elections. Enough! Stop the insanity!
Don’t believe us? Take a look at how the folks who watch your show voted on the subject. We heard from almost 6,000 viewers!
Vote Away!
Oh, dead God, no, were the literal words from 88% of your audience when the possibility of yet another election was floated.
Remember the one where Felicia ran and Nikolas stole and hid ballots for years? When Lulu discovered that caper, another election was triggered — not like, giving the position to the rightful winner.
You hated the one where Ned (Wally Kurth) was painted as the bad guy for pointing out the obvious – his opponent, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) had literally gone to bed with the mob. More than once. And she’s got three daughters, from three different shifty daddies, to prove it.
You hated Laura (Genie Francis) blowing back into town and acting like she should be elected mayor just because she and her former husband (another ex-mayor) once saved Port Charles from a supervillain’s weather machine — though, that is a new one.
You hated Spencer (Nicholas Bechtel) tampering with the voting machines and nobody becoming the wiser…yet. This, of course, prompted another election.
Please, the fans are begging, don’t make them go through this level of nonsense again when Spencer’s shenanigans are inevitably exposed.
Democracy Now
One man, one vote, a minority 12% of you insist. Politics is exciting stuff. (Just turn on your TV right now!) It makes for great drama and gives the vets something to do besides listening to younger characters problems.
It’s wholesome and all-American and gives you someone to root for and someone to hiss, boo. It’s perfect for daytime drama. Bring on the polls!
