General Hospital: Soap Hub Critic’s Week In Review

Everybody’s got an opinion…especially where their favorite daytime drama is concerned – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the General Hospital week that was.

General Hospital: A Critic’s Week In Review

Nina (Cynthia Watros) is on the warpath, and while it makes for a great story – and resulted in some of the best home truths hurling we’ve seen in decades – it’s also casting Ms. Reeves in the worst possible light.

What she should be focusing on is the fact that Carly (Laura Wright) and Jax (Ingo Rademacher) planned to keep her away from her living, breathing flesh and blood. However, what the story seems intent on highlighting is not Nina’s righteous anger over Wiley, but rather her unnecessary and unwelcome sanctifying of Nelle (Chloe Lanier).

Does ANYONE want to hear another tirade from Nina about how all her daughter needed to turn her life around was a little TLC? Or how she was clearly working towards being a better person because she’d designed a vision board? (And yes, that was indeed one of the many arguments that Nina’s put forth.)

If anything, the writers seem to be telling us that we should be siding with Carly and offering Nina nothing more than the side-eye and that’s just not the case here. In this story, Carly is not the good guy, and that should be stressed. (Of course, neither was Nelle, and Nina IS the victim here and has been since the day her mother sent her into a coma for 20 years.)

Further GH Musings

* Last week, we wondered when Sonny’s current storyline would be coming to an end, and this week we got our answer: not anytime soon. There seemed to be some headway made when Officer Finchely purloined “Mike’s” cup o’ joe, but the prints weren’t clear enough to pull. And then Sonny refused to submit to actual fingerprinting…why we ask? He apparently doesn’t want to find out who is THAT badly.

And can someone, anyone, please point out to the Keystone cop that the robber who’s been plaguing the town since before Sonny made his appearance is probably the very same man who held Lenny (Rif Hutton) and Phyllis (Joyce Guy) at gunpoint a few weeks back. This town has a worse police force than Port Charles, and that’s saying quite a bit.

* As far as prank gifts go, Ava (Maura West) got off lightly with that glass-encased cockroach. But who’s the actual gift giver? Ryan’s (Jon Lindstrom) the obvious suspect, so let’s go out on a limb and say it isn’t him. Maybe Spencer (Nicolas Bechtel) isn’t as understanding of his father’s decision to stay with Ava as he’s apparently let on. Or perhaps Grandmother Cassadine has a standing order of creepy knickknacks to be dolled out to potential in-laws.

* Was there anything funnier than the look that crossed Jason Morgan’s (Steve Burton) face when Brando (Johnny Wactor) wondered aloud whether or not he knew how much it hurts to take a bullet?

* Goodbye Charlie’s and The Floating Rib, and hello The Port Charles Grille – and yes, it does indeed share the same name as a Quartermaine-owned restaurant that many a Port Charlesian frequented in the ’80s and ’90s.

* Didn’t Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) seem just a little bit too into the potential Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) coupling? This is the woman who read Lulu (Emme Rylan) for filth over her involvement with Dustin (Mark Lawson), right?

* Britt’s (Kelly Thiebaud) hand continues to shake, and we continue to fear that GH is preparing to diagnose her with Huntington’s Disease. And just when it seems that they might actually gift us with the long-teased Britt/Jason pairing.

* Who else is hoping against hope that we’ll actually get to see Jackie (Kim Delaney) and Martin (Michael E. Knight) get their sleuth on in picturesque Vermont? General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
