Mike Corbin’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis on General Hospital has resulted in some powerful storytelling and outstanding performances.
The tale has also educated viewers about the disease, and recently, GH used Mike’s condition to address the issue of care facilities that will aid both Mike and his family.
GH and Next Avenue partnered for a PSA (Public Service Announcement) during Monday’s show, pointing out that taking care of family members who have Alzheimer’s and other conditions can be demanding, but by working together everyone can lift each other up.
In the story, Stella (Vernee Watson) gently but firmly told Carly (Laura Wright) that while Mike (Max Gail) enjoyed the daycare facility he attended, eventually he would need to go to a place with 24-hour care.
Carly was hesitant to talk about Mike living at any long-term facility in light of her horrible experience at Ferncliff. Stella assured Carly that none of the places they toured resembled Ferncliff.
A painful reminder of Mike’s condition came later in the episode when he mistook Cameron’s (William Lipton) bike for one that he thought he once bought Sonny (Maurice Benard) as a child.
Benard, Wright, Gail, and Chad Duell (Michael) took part in the PSA. Check it out below!
