General Hospital Seriously Considering Using AMC and OLTL Characters

When news broke that ABC now has the rights to All My Children and One Life to Live after Prospect Park dropped its lawsuit, fans immediately began wondering if the characters–or even the two soaps–could be resurrected in some way. Now, General Hospital and ABC exec Nathan Varni offers some insight.

In a statement to the social media group Soap Fans United, Varni thanked fans in that group for campaigning for some sort of comeback for their favorite characters.

“We’re all elated at ABC to obtain the character rights back. Please know we are actively discussing these matters on a daily basis,” Varni said, “We will be taking our time, though, in planning the future. As we are written out several months in advance, any use of characters from AMC and OLTL would have to be done the right way, in a way that makes sense for the future stories of GH while respecting the characters and their development from OLTL and ABC… When I know more, clearly we’ll let the fans know more.”

General Hospital already utilized OLTL characters before Prospect Park claimed rights to them and brought Todd Manning, Blair Manning, Starr Manning, and John McBain from Llanview. Two of those actors are still on the show with Roger Howarth as Franco and Michael Easton as Finn.

Seeing old characters in Port Charles can give new hope to soap fans who feel bruised and battered over the last decade as we’ve lost so many of our beloved shows.
