On April 1, General Hospital celebrates its 56th anniversary come and the show has decided to celebrate it by providing quite the treat for longtime fans — the return of beloved favorite, Dr. Lesley Webber — Laura’s mother.
Entertainment Weekly revealed the exciting news that will surely be welcomed by fans. There was a time Denise Alexander was the most popular actress on the show and she is dearly missed.
The bond between Laura (Genie Francis) and Lesley is rivaled only by the adoration between the two actors, who have played opposite each other off and on since Francis joined the show in 1977.
In the story, Lesley will return due to Gail’s (the late Susan Brown, who passed away in August) last wish, for all of her friends to get together, which EW reveals will be arranged by Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn).
Laura and Lesley discuss the past in the clip, which didn’t include a flashback as it could have. Here’s hoping that GH will take full advantage of having the original actors on hand to show many flashbacks throughout the anniversary episode.
After all, there’s no reason for the characters to simply recall “made up” memories — not when there is a huge library of video clips that viewers saw with their own eyes over the years. Time will tell what the show has in store.
The special episode will air on April 2, the day after the show’s anniversary. General Hospital debuted on TV on April 1, 1963.
General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
