The General Hospital recap for May 11-15, 2020 features a rehash of some better-told stories from decades past… but with some twists we didn’t expect.
General Hospital Recap Highlights
There’s an old saying that goes, “If at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again.” But GH seems to operate under the philosophy that every successful story should repeat — again and again and again.
What’s That You Say?
A particularly favorite trope of this series is an eavesdropper gaining some pretty damning knowledge. Remember when Lulu (Emme Rylan) overheard Liesl (Kathleen Gati) and Sasha discussing the fact that the latter wasn’t really Nina’s (Cynthia Watros) daughter?
This week, we had Nelle (Chloe Lanier) learning that Julian (William deVry) was responsible for the car accident that nearly killed his son and son-in-law. And you just know that information is going to come in handy.
Speaking of Nelle, the revelation that she had become Mrs. David Henry Archer late last year was a true shocker. So, of course, the soap decided to repeat the matrimonial blindside – though we will have to wait till next week to see who this schemer suckered into marriage.
No Body, No Dice
Any time Robert (Tristan Rogers) was in need of a distraction it was Holly Sutton to the rescue. But this time, the superspy is brooding over the possibility that he might never see his English Rose again.
Is it possible that she really did go down with that sinking ship? Who knows? As Robert mentioned to Finn (Michael Easton), this is far from the first time that Holly has been presumed dead – “Plane crash…turns out she was actually in a coma from a car crash…no plane involved.”
And while we’re on the subject of presumed deaths related to maritime disasters, we haven’t forgotten that both Robert and Anna were both presumed dead after the boat they were occupying was blown to smithereens by Faison.
The Struggle Is Real
Anyone and everyone are susceptible to growing dependent on mood-altering or pain-relieving substances. Addiction knows no boundaries. This is a fact that GH has spotlighted many times over its history.
Both Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil) and Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon) became addicted to painkillers, Karen Wexler became dependent on “pep pills” supplied to her by Sonny (Maurice Benard), and Lee Baldwin valiantly battled alcoholism every single day of his life.
And now, it seems that Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) is poised to follow in those characters’ footsteps – since we can only assume that she did indeed inhale that white powder handed to her during her photo shoot.
GH Musings
Michael to Willow: “You’re going to be marrying a Quartermaine and a Corinthos. Two power families with unique traditions and customs and a lot of secrets…If we do this your life will be very different.” Willow is now also twice as likely to be run over by her mother-in-law, poisoned by a butler, strangled to death by a serial killer, and blown up in a garage.
Brook Lynn: “Excuses me, Mr. ‘Blackmailed into bigamy by Katherine Bell.'” Ned: “Your mother told you that?!” Way back in 1994, Ned was happily married to Lois Cerullo (a fact no one in Port Charles was aware of) when the amorous Miss Bell leveraged evidence incriminating Alan in the death of Ray Conway for a wedding with Ned.
Lucy: “Sasha…I have been where you are. I understand what it is like to be labeled the town tramp…I hurt, my Doc terribly a while back and I did not think that he would ever, ever forgive ever.” Not only did Lucy (Lynn Herring) cheat on Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) with Scotty (Kin Shriner), but she also cheated on hubby Alan Quartermaine…with Scotty.
Robert to Laura: “I’m the one that should be sorry for dragging you out of bed in the middle of the night…to talk about a person who you didn’t have the greatest relationship with.” Yea, Laura might not be too thrilled to discuss the woman who slept with her husband and bore him a child.
Do we really believe that Skye (Robin Christopher) – who spent years playing peacemaker – would just hand over both her and her daughter’s stake in ELQ? General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
