The General Hospital recap for January 27-31, 2020 features heroes stepping up to the plate, another return from the dead, and much more.

General Hospital Recap Highlights

Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) family, his business and his very existence nearly ceased to be this week when gunmen stormed the pier, the coffee house, and the Brooklyn dinner where Sonny, his father, and faithful assassin were dinning.

Sonny And His Family

Though Corinthos and Co. emerged unscathed, innocent bystander Laura (Genie Francis) and a mystery man who saved Carly’s (Laura Wright) life both took direct hits.

And the damage would probably have been a lot worse had Josslyn’s (Eden McCoy) shouting not warned Michael (Chad Duell) of impending danger, had Jason (Steve Burton) been a lousy shot, and had Dustin (Mark Lawson) not intervened.

GH Musings

Has there ever been a better euphemism for gangster than “powerful businessman, [who] attracts unwanted attention from time to time”?

“What if this is just the beginning? There could be more shootings!” Doesn’t Dev’s (Ashton Arbab) reaction to hearing about the attacks make you wonder what happened to that fearless street urchin that helped Sonny and Dante stay alive in Turkey?

Now that we know that Brando (Johnny Wactor) is alive and well, what explanation do we think Gladys will offer for her son’s miraculous return from the “dead?” And, more importantly, why was he carrying around a photo of his mother and Dev?

Since Carly did such a fine job patching up Brando — she even earned a kudos from Dr. Finn (Michael Easton) — any chance that the show might actually put her to work in the actual hospital? She did go through that nursing program after all.

What was Nikolas’ (Marcus Coloma) point in adding the “faithfulness” clause to his and Ava’s (Maura West) prenup? They had already agreed the marriage was going to be a celibate one and Mrs. Jerome hasn’t had any takers since Ryan was incarcerated.

Ava: “You think that you can say that you acted out of love and that will absolve you of all your lies, of all your betrayals?” In Valentin’s (James Patrick Stuart) defense, this is Port Charles and that mode of thinking has been working for the city’s men since at least 1963.

What do we think about that dance and kiss shared between Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Jax (Ingo Rademacher)? Are we Nixing the couple or feeling the heat?

Willow (Katelyn MacMullen): “I am heartbroken that Michael had to lose his child. But, I am increasingly grateful that you are not a mother.” To quote Nelle (Chloe Lanier), “Biiiiiitch.”

Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst): “She helped you pull off your big plan, and this is how you repay her? How could you do this to her? You of all people?” Well, to be fair Liz, Nikolas has done far worse to Hayden…he did hire a hitman to take her out.

And sure, you might not be aware of that fact, but you do know that Nikolas faked his death to frame Drew for murder. Where’s all this indignation coming from? General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
