The General Hospital recap for June 29-July 3, 2020, features a look back at the relationships that exist between Sonny Corinthos and his large number of children – biological and adopted alike.
General Hospital Recap Highlights
Last week, Jason (Steve Burton), Sam (Kelly Monaco), and their courtship took center stage. For the past five days, the spotlight shifted back to Sonny (Maurice Benard) and his multitude of children – if you’re having trouble keeping track, he’s fathered Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth), Morgan (ex-Bryan Craig), Avery, and Donna and he raised Michael (Chad Duell) from babyhood.
One could also make the argument that he also helped raise Stone Cates (Michael Sutton), and he did just as poor a job of that as he did with his other offspring. Sonny is by no means a perfect father…or even a good father. And many of his shortcomings in that department were on full display in the five presented episodes.
Identity Crisis
Most egregious was his treatment of firstborn Dante…the one he shot in the chest! But it served as a teachable moment. Decent, law-abiding citizens shouldn’t attempt to take down Port Charles’s Teflon Don, he shouldn’t go around shooting people until he has established whether or not there is a familial connection, and mothers should always be upfront and honest when they bear him a child.
Abuse Is Never Just Physical
Sonny learned his own lesson courtesy of Kristina…and it was a doozy. Turns out, he is an abuser. Sure, he doesn’t strike women in the face – like Kiefer Bauer – but his verbal and psychological assaults are just as damaging (if not more so).
Michael and His Two Dads
Sonny dutifully raised Michael as his own son and in many respects, Michael is Sonny’s favorite child. But that still didn’t stop Sonny from murdering Michael’s birth father in cold blood and then lying about it. Michael was understandably pissed off. But he got over it really quickly. And he was even man enough to apologize for having been angry in the first place.

If there was ever a Corinthos child who got the short end of the stick it was Morgan. He was virtually ignored by Sonny (and raised by Jax) until he was diagnosed with the same ailment that had vexed Sonny for his entire adult life. THEN Sonny began to really care about his son’s well being.
But it sadly turned out to be a case of too little too late. Sure, he was able to get through to Morgan during a particularly dark moment, but Sonny still wound up losing him thanks to him due to a car bomb set by Olivia Jerome. If only Morgan was in his right mind when he stole Julian’s car. But Ava only wanted to keep him away from Kiki… Plus, Morgan loved penguins. Never forget. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
