The General Hospital recap for May 18-22, 2020, features a contentious court hearing, a much-discussed wedding, and Sonny continuing to struggle with Mike’s condition.
In what was probably a surprise to no one, GH revealed that Julian Jerome (William deVry) was the man that Nelle (Chloe Lanier) roped into marrying her. Her reasoning for marrying a known mobster – who had been arrested on charges ranging from attempted murder to drug trafficking – remains unknown (and, honestly, the move makes little sense).
Carly (Laura Wright), Michael (Chad Duell), and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) were hoping against hope that Nelle’s shenanigans prove to be her ultimate undoing – but like Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) pointed out, there are no guarantees.
And though Martin (Michael E. Knight) was able to elicit a few damaging sound bites (ye,s Carly has been in two mental institutions and yes, she did shoot Tony Jones, and no, Michael is not IN love with Willow), most of his efforts blew up in his face.
But Nelle made a good witness. And as we left GH, Nina (Cynthia Watros) stood poised to testify on her employee’s behalf – despite pleas to the contrary from both Carly and Jax (Ingo Rademacher). But Nina is certain that SOMEONE has to give Nelle a second chance. Because she certainly wasn’t given one after killing her fiancé. Or trying to bust up Carly’s marriage…oh wait, yes she was.
Mike’s (Max Gail) life seemed near its end, but Sonny (Maurice Benard) just couldn’t bring himself to sign a DNR or papers denying the insertion of a feeding tube. Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) had relayed to him – through Jason (Steve Burton) – that her nurse’s intuition said Mike is ready to go…he’s just waiting on Sonny’s permission to do so. However, it didn’t seem like Sonny is going to offer that any time soon.
Nina: “I had a quickie wedding. I married one guy to spite another, and that didn’t really work out, because my husband as in cahoots with my mother, they gaslit me, put me in a mental institution, and tried to steal my money.” The man she married was Ric Lansing (Ric Hearst). The man she wanted to spite was Franco (Roger Howarth.)
Diane: “Say it with me. ‘I must not issue death threats to opposing counsel.'” Carly: “He pissed me off!” Oh! Well why didn’t you say so…that totally excuses what you did Carly!
When Carly told the court that she had shot Tony Jones due to him kidnapping Michael, why didn’t she also reveal that he had taken Robin Scorpio – whom he nearly killed because she did not have access to her HIV medication? If there were ever extenuating circumstances for putting a few bullets into someone…
Laura: “We all believed that Nikolas was dead only to be proven wrong, so I’m the last person in the world to tell you to give up hope that Holly survived.” What Laura failed to mention was that she herself was presumed dead – slaughtered by the hands of cultist David Grey. Of course she shouldn’t easily dismiss the possibility that the rumors of Holly’s death might be exaggerated.
Laura: “I’m no longer on the hospital board, but General Hospital is very important to the city, and it’s important to me personally.” In fact, Laura’s very first job was at GH where she served as a candy striper.
Valentin: “Instead of a traditional launch party, we are bringing Deception public as one of the main sponsors of the 2020 Nurses Ball.” Boy, it must be tough for Lucy (Lynn Herring) to no longer have mobsters like Damian Smith or Jerry Jacks, (or enemies like Katherine Bell or “friends” like Amanda Barrington) to turn to in order to get the ball completely underwritten.
Well, she was light-headed and nauseous and counting days on her calendar. We suppose it’s safe to say we now know that Maxie (Kirsten Storms) is GH’s expectant mother. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
