The General Hospital recap for Friday, April 17, 2020, features a throwback to a very special episode dedicated to the majesty that is Ava Jerome.
Though she’s not exactly the storyline-driving force that she once was, Ava (Maura West) is still a vital member of the Port Charles canvas – and her one-sided feud with wicked little Hellraiser Charlotte Cassadine (Scarlett Fernandez) reached a fever pitch on Thursday, courtesy of the snake that was introduced into Ava’s handbag.
Today, General Hospital took full advantage of “Flashback Friday” to spotlight this fascinating anti-heroine with a re-airing of a spotlight episode from way, way back in January 2018.
Life has not been particularly kind to Ava Jerome – nor has she been kind to her fellow human beings. She murdered Connie Falconeri, tampered with Morgan’s (Bryan Craig) bipolar medication, lied about her daughter’s paternity, and kept mum about Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) purposefully shooting Nikolas (Marcus Coloma).
And thanks to a temper tantrum and a misused kerosene lamp, Ava suffered severe facial scarring that a combination of expensive surgeries and alternative therapies finally healed. Now there is a single, glaring singe mark that she’s desperate to rid herself of.
During her corrective procedure, Ava imagined a world in which she is stalked by a familiar-looking brunette. It’s also a world where Morgan managed to survive the car explosion that supposedly ended his young life. She was buoyed by his decision to seek her out and immediately began scheming.
Confident that her role as Morgan’s savior will earn her valuable brownie points, Ava made plans to reveal him to an assemblage soon to converge at her gallery. However, she was stymied by the appearance of a bloody, revenge-seeking Connie and the condemnation of Nina (Michelle Stafford), Laura (Genie Francis) and finally, a grown-up Avery.
This future version of her daughter was the mystery woman following Ava and sending her threatening text messages. When Ava wondered why, she was told that she must take responsibility for her actions and accept the inherent consequences rather than deflect blame and bemoan the actions of others.
Upon awakening in the real world, Ava was heartened to see that her beauty had indeed been restored and she self-assuredly made her re-entrance into society at the Metro Court restaurant.
But she was shaken to the core after coming face to face with the establishment’s bartender, who so resembled her fantasized version of Avery. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
