Soap Hub admits it was glued to the General Hospital Ryan story from the start and knew somehow Carly would get involved with the ending, but did Jason have to be the ultimate rescuer in this tangled mess?
We sure don’t think so, mainly because it just didn’t work. Jason had barely anything to do with this story at all, except for his orderly job at Ferncliff and helping Carly be nosy about who the heck was living next door.
While that confrontation on the bridge was dramatic, something felt wrong because Jason was there. The shot from behind took us all by surprise, but why couldn’t that shot have come from Laura or Lulu — two of Ryan’s victims, but in very different ways.
Laura is the ultimate GH heroine and has been for decades. She was snowed by Ryan, her heart torn apart as he kept her husband locked up and away from her. And Ryan actually stabbed Lulu in a very concerted effort to kill her.
If either one of those women had been the one to pull the trigger (with Jason elsewhere ready to rescue Carly, as always), the scene would have had so much more effect.
Laura and Lulu BOTH needed to be there, and frankly so did Kevin, the brother who was locked away. The brother Ava thought she was about to marry. Seeing BOTH brothers there and NOT Jason would have been so much more compelling — and mind-boggling — for Ava.
Instead we got Jason and Laura, two characters who barely ever interact and certainly didn’t interact much during this storyline.
While we can’t say Jason ruined it for us (because Genie Francis and Maura West as the women of the hour were so damn good), his presence certainly felt weird and out of place.
Personally, we hope Ryan gets one more moment sometime soon so all the women he victimized — from Felicia to Ava — ALL get a chance to go off. Without Jason there. (We love Jason. He just didn’t belong in the climax of THIS story.)
General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
