Due to ongoing coverage of the sentencing of Derek Chauvin, ABC will not be airing a brand new episode of General Hospital. A repeat will be shown in its place in parts of the country not preempted by the scheduled breaks in transmission.
General Hospital Encore Episode
“Due to a scheduled news report,” explained the official GH Twitter account, “today’s #GH will be an encore airing of our Emmy-nominated episode celebrating the Women’s Suffrage movement.” The post also encouraged fans to watch the Daytime Emmy Awards, airing tonight at 8/7c on CBS and streaming platform Paramount +
This election-themed special was first broadcast on Monday, November 2, 2020, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote.
Despite the slotting of the encore show, GH will not air in most US cities and states. Instead, the hour (and the many before and after it) will instead be filled by coverage of the sentencing of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin who was convicted of second-and third-degree murder, as well as second-degree manslaughter, in the death of George Floyd back in April of this year.
Though the event was not directly referenced on-screen, GH – never a stranger to socially conscious storylines – did present several stirring scenes in the wake of the trial and verdict. Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr) and Jordan Ashford (Briana Nicole Henry) – both career women, both mothers, and both women of color – came together to discuss their fears at raising children in such a harsh, unforgiving world.
And Trina Robinson (Sydney Mikayla) gave fellow teen Cameron Webber (William Lipton) a crash course on the differences between their outlooks on regular day occurrences like interacting with police. While Cameron had felt perfectly fine demanding an explanation for why he had been pulled over, the mere act of someone in her presence questioning the officer had sent Trina into a panic. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
