In between mob wars, couples are what General Hospital is all about. And this idea goes back decades to one of the first soap couples to be known by more than just soap fans.
And, then we have today. Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Jason (Steve Burton) are back together, Liz (Rebecca Herbst) and Franco (Roger Howarth) are apart, Michael (Chad Duell) and Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) are teetering on the precipice, and Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) are now done.
But those couples are all relatively new compared to classic GH. Which is why we asked 11,000 long-time fans which pairings they’d like to see revisited:
General Hospital: Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing, Baby
They’re who most people think of first when you say General Hospital – or even soaps, in general, which is why 82% General Hospital fans voted for Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis).
Sure, Laura and Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) are cute enough — when he’s not being impersonated by his serial killer brother.
And Luke and Tracy (Jane Elliot) were certainly entertaining… though she deserved better than a man who just takes off whenever he feels like it to find himself, or fight the darkness, or… go on vacation in the Netherlands.
But both were just “Love the one you’re with” situations. After what fans saw on their General Hospital screens in the early 1980s, and then again in the mid-1990s, it’s tough to convince us that Luke and Laura weren’t each other’s great loves… and always will be.
Before There Was Carly
Some fans have a hard time recalling a period before Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly (Laura Wright). But, the truth is, Sonny first made waves as a romantic leading man — instead of an old and married mob boss — with Brenda (Vanessa Marcil).
And 18% of you would like to return to those days. Sure, they’ve tried since — several times. And failed. But so have Sonny and Carly. And they’re still at it. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
