Ever since the Cassadines showed up on General Hospital in the early 1980s, viewers knew they were bad. So bad, they made Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura’s (Genie Francis) earlier adventure versus mobster Frank Smith feel like child’s play.
General Hospital Polling
When the Cassadines returned in the late 1990s, we found out there were some good ones in the bunch. But they all had a dark side, nonetheless.
So, which Cassadine is your all-time favorite? We have the votes of over 12,000 fans!
The Next Generation
Would you believe a winning 41% of the audience opted for Spencer (Nicolas Bechtel)? Is it the precocious vocabulary? The oversized sense of superiority and entitlement? The vote tampering? Or is it the fact that, as a child, he may have been obnoxious, but never out and out evil… yet?
Alexis: Tied Up
It was almost a tie, with 40% for Spencer’s great aunt Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn). She has gone out of her way not to live up to the Cassadine legacy. While they get things done, Alexis flounders. While they radiate self-confidence, she babbles. Guess you find that endearing. Or, at least, relatable.
Split Determination
Nikolas (Marcus Coloma) was the first to suggest that a Cassadine didn’t have to be bad to the bone. But that he could also revert to type when the occasion called for it. He’s got the shades of grey thing down pat, and that’s good enough for 13% of General Hospital fans.
Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing, Baby
Last place, 6%, went to Valentin (James Patrick Stuart). He was supposed to be the Cassadine other Cassadines – including Helena (Constance Towers) – were scared of. He got a major build-up… and then we got a major letdown.
Nowadays, Valentin mostly either moons over Nina (Cynthia Watros), spoils Charlotte (Scarlett Fernandez), or twirls his non-existent mustache… General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
