General Hospital has yet to go back into production, which is why fans are watching classic episodes instead of new ones. With COVID-19 still a threat, some changes will need to be made before cast and crew can get back on set. (As of now, they are planning to return in about three weeks.)
General Hospital Polling
What are fans willing to give up – and what are they not – to get General Hospital back on the air? The opinions of over 2,000 fans:
Group Therapy
The largest number of you, 38%, are willing to never see another crowd or restaurant scene. Characters can have more intimate moments – it’s what you tune in for, anyway. You’re sorry for the extras who will lose their jobs, but your shows are more important. (You mean health, of course, you mean health. Anything else would be selfish.)
Slap, Bam, Wow – General Hospital Style
Another 23% of the audience is OK with no more fighting or slapping. Keep your hands to yourselves, folks! GH’s most physical characters, like Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Jason (Steve Burton), are getting a little long in the tooth to play superhero. And women slapping each other has always been tacky and immature. We’re better off without either.
Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang
A slightly smaller 20% will grit their teeth and say there can be less kissing on the show. We know how most couples feel about each other, we don’t have to see it reinforced. As for new couples, well, soaps are also all about stretching out the moment. So stretch it out… more.
Sex Sells
And in last place: Sex! Take away crowds, take away fights, take away kissing, but 19% of the viewers aren’t giving up sex. Love scenes are the lifeblood of daytime drama, and that needs to be upheld, no matter what.
So what if this exposes actors to a virus which they might bring back to their families and, from there, to their friends? Sex is non-negotiable! General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
