General Hospital News Update: Show Set Resume Production in Mid-July

General Hospital has been on hiatus for a few months now due to the coronavirus. The show ran out of original shows in May and has been re-airing classic episodes ever since. Now comes word that the ABC serial is going to return to the studio to resume taping new shows.

General Hospital Set To Return

“General Hospital is joining fellow daytime dramas The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless in setting a target date for return to production,” a report for Deadline states. “ABC is tentatively planning to resume shooting its long-running soap in mid-July contingent on the COVID-19 situation in Los Angeles, which have been fluid.”

Earlier this month, BB returned to the studio to resume taping. The show hit the “pause” button on production while testing procedures were perfected. The half-hour soap released a statement that read: “We have paused very briefly to modify our testing protocol to better accommodate the large volume of testing needed. Safety remains our top priority as we continue to move forward with the production of the Bold and the Beautiful. BB filmed with cast and crew today and it was a successful first day back at work.”

General Hospital History

GH made its debut in 1963 and is the second longest-running daytime soap opera in American history. The longest-running sudser is Guiding Light. While it’s not the longest-running sudser, General Hospital is the longest-running soap opera currently on air.
