General Hospital News Update: Kirsten Storms On Parenting In Today’s World

The world we are living in seems to have changed dramatically in different ways this year, and it has made another turn over the last two weeks as America has reacted to the death of George Floyd. It has brought race relations to the forefront and General Hospital star Kirsten Storms believes in teaching children to understand our current world in the best way possible — through books.

Kirsten Storms With Practical Advice

Storms took to Instagram with a gorgeous photo of herself and 7-year-old daughter, Haper, to tell us what books she finds are working for her and her family — and why she has chosen them.

“Parents out there with little ones: Talking to your children about what is happening in this country is not only necessary, it’s VITAL. Brandon ordered these 2 books (swipe to see them, both are available on Amazon), which the 3 of us read together,” Storms wrote.

“We answered all 500 questions she asked along the way and then we talked. We talked about the messages we took away from these stories and how they made us feel. We talked about racism (past and present), privilege, and what it means to have equality.”

“We read Harper a LOT of books and have decided that stories like these 2 will be in a permanent rotation moving forward. We want our daughter to not only be educated on the history of black men and women but also to grow up KNOWING without a fraction of a doubt that racism is wrong,” the General Hospital actress continued.

“Books are a good conversation starter with kids, so if you’re looking for a way to begin this discussion with your child, I 100% recommend reading them stories like these. If they can feel love and anger – they are not too young to talk about it. Let’s do our part to ensure their generation makes a difference.”

The books Kirsten Storms recommends are Voices In The Park by Anthony Brown and Rosa by Nikki Giovanni. As she said, you can find both on Amazon.com. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
