Fans of General Hospital’s Jonathan Jackson got a fun treat this week as his former Nashville co-star Charles Esten posted a video on Twitter of the two country singers doing a duet of the Everly Brothers classic, “Let it Be Me” in honor of the former Lucky Spencer’s birthday, which was on May 11.
Esten, of course, played tortured heartthrob Deacon Claybourne on the country music drama for six seasons and has performed at the Grand Ole Opry more than 100 times. Jackson played singer-songwriter Avery Barkley on the show, and the two actors developed a great friendship.
“We’ve sung this Everly Brothers classic @opry and many times during our Nashville Cast Tours,” Esten wrote. “So grateful he agreed to do it for my Saturday FB Live #QuarantineLiveStream. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, brother!!”
The video shows the two singers in a virtual duet due to social distancing, harmonizing as great as they ever have. Jackson even retweeted the message, which has already garnered more than 10,000 views.
Jackson may have made his last appearance as Lucky on General Hospital more than five years ago, but the beloved actor and character are still very much wanted back by fans of the show.
And story-wise, it is as good a time as ever for his return. After all, his son Aiden could sure use some parental guidance right about now. His brother Nikolas, recently back from the dead, could probably use some help adjusting to life in Port Charles again. Plus, with his ex-wife Elizabeth finally in a good place with Franco, wouldn’t it be just like the soap gods to throw some past love in her face and develop a triangle with multiple rooting interests. Now that would be something to sing about! General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
