When we have our fill of song and dance as a backdrop for soapy drama on General Hospital, a Carly and Sonny-themed week is next on the horizon.
A Carson Extravaganza
The soap ran out of original episodes on May 21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down production in March. GH stretched its episode count as long as it could by airing classics on Fridays and adding flashbacks into the already-taped shows that were in the can.
Last Monday, we began seeing Nurses Ball episodes. Last week the 2014 and 2015 Nurses Balls aired. This week we get 2016 and 2017, while next week presents 2018 and 2019.
And 2019 was clearly the last Nurses Ball that aired, so GH had to come up with something else to bring back memories and the love story of Carson is next up to the plate.
We will see the two declare their love at the Metro Court during the hostage crisis in 2007, as well as Sonny going off his bipolar meds in 2013. We also will relive when Sonny was shot in 2015 and their subsequent hospital chapel wedding. Finally, we watch Carly blaming Sonny for Morgan’s death in 2016.
All of these Carson episodes feature Laura Wright as Carly, although the pair first came together when Sarah Brown was playing the role.
General Hospital History
GH made its debut in 1963 and is the second longest-running daytime soap opera in American history. The longest-running sudser is Guiding Light. While it’s not the longest-running sudser, General Hospital is the longest-running soap opera currently on air.
The daytime drama outlasted other soaps to become a mainstay for many households! From Luke (Tony Geary) and Laura’s (Genie Francis) gripping romance and wedding, to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and his mobster activities, GH knows how to please their viewers.
Bringing the Drama
More than five decades of gripping drama has kept the daytime sudser on the air as other soap operas were axed. It is one of only four remaining soap operas currently on the air. The other three daytime dramas include Days of our Lives, The Young and the Restless (YR), and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB). GH airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for air times.
