If you were reaching for the Kleenex watching General Hospital yesterday, you weren’t alone. Cast members playing out the story had an emotional time filming it — and watching it. And one performer was thrilled to be there for it.
General Hospital Says Farewell To Mike
There were gasps of surprise in living rooms across the country when Mike’s spirit looked up and smiled, telling someone he knows them. That’s when we saw Alicia Leigh Willis appear as Courtney, Mike’s beloved late daughter ready to walk her father up to heaven.
“I’m so excited to come back for a surprise visit! You can catch the surprise and watch today! Love working with the #generalhospital cast and crew!” Willis posted on Instagram.
The last time we saw Courtney’s spirit was in 2015 when she returned to council her young son, Spencer (Nicolas Bechtel). That episode was re-aired this spring when GH was in classic episode mode thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.
On Wednesday, Laura Wright tweeted about her Port Charles family as the Corinthos clan rallied around Mike, knowing they were going to lose them soon.
“I love my GH Family!!!! @GeneralHospital @MaxGail @1SteveBurton @RealEdenMccoy @MauriceBenard and yes you too @duelly87 (and the entire amazing cast and crew). So grateful,” she wrote along with a photo of the actors she mentioned.
Max Gail responded with: “I do too. What a magnificent experience to work with you all. And at the center of that, from the first moment, thank you Mauricio, for your presence and openness…and Laura…and on through the whole circle.”
Gail also praised Benard in another tweet on Thursday night. “I’ve been able to see the recent scenes as a viewer rather than as Mike with his eyes closed. Of course, I could feel Sonny’s energy, but his “work,” as we actors call it, is so deep and honest. Wow.”
Even young Eden McCoy joined in after she saw the episode air. “I have no idea how I’ve still got tears left to cry, but watching #GH now and yep I very much do,” she tweeted.
This was a two-year-old story that ripped out hearts out and we expect more drama to come as Port Charles mourns Mike. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
