Our General Hospital New Year’s Wish: Bring Back Nelle For Good… NOW!

What would soaps be without a sociopathic bad girl to shake things up a bit? Sure, they cause problems for your favorite good guys, but we didn’t realize what an amazing thing General Hospital had in Nelle until she was gone.

After a rocky start that showed the soap just wanted Chloe Lanier and wasn’t sure what to do with the character it created just for her, Nelle finally became the vicious vixen she was always meant to be.

We learned she has NO moral code at all, would be perfectly willing to give away her child for revenge, and is actually the perfect match for Ava.

Heck, Nelle had even Ava scared of her plots, with the older woman trying to act as the younger woman’s conscience… at least relatively.

After well over a year of GH trying to decide what to do with Nelle, the show finally figured it out. Just have her be an over-the-top lunatic willing to do anything no matter how amoral and outlandish to get what she wants.

Sadly, by the time the character hit her stride, Chloe Lanier decided to leave the soap. We’ve been thrilled each time she’s made a brief appearance since July and today was no exception.

GH left the door so wide open for Nelle’s permanent return there’s hardly a door. It gave us a classic baby switch story with a twist — and Nelle is the mother. Not the mother who wants her baby back, but the one who gave her baby away and pretended it was dead.

Then, she was carted away to Pentonville (and eventually Ferncliff for a brief stay) and the loosest end ever was left. Sure, she can return for a few days to tie that end up, but what fun is that?

Carly needs someone to keep her agitated besides Ava and Port Charles needs the second coming of Heather Webber. It has BOTH in Nelle Benson.
