General Hospital Celebrates The New Year With A Ratings Achievement

The year 2019 may be gone, but it closed out on a positive note for General Hospital. The most recent ratings show a boost for the ABC drama.

Great News For General Hospital

According to the latest Nielsen ratings, ending Sunday, December 29, GH came in second in the coveted Women 18-49 category, earning a 0.43 in the demographic that’s most attractive to advertisers. The Young and the Restless was the top-rated daytime drama in the demo with 0.46.

The Bold and the Beautiful came in third with 0.39 and Days of Our Lives was in fourth with 0.33. What was going on in Port Charles that earned the show second place? GH aired a special holiday-themed episode featuring Michael Easton (Finn) as Scrooge in its take on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Also, airing last week was a re-broadcast of Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) and Laura’s (Genie Francis) marriage from 2017 in which Laura’s mother, Lesley, played by fan-favorite Denise Alexander, appeared.

Tracy (Jane Elliot) made her way back to Port Charles for the holidays and the outspoken Quartermaine wasted no time in renewing her relationships with her relatives using her trademark caustic wit. Imagine her shock at the mansion being redecorated.

Additionally, Sonny (Maurice Benard) invited Gladys Corbin (Bonnie Burroughs), Mike’s (Max Gail) cousin, to his home for Christmas, much to Carly’s chagrin. Nelle (Chloe Lanier) managed to interact with people from her past –including Michael, Willow, and her own baby, Wiley/Jonah after she was admitted to General Hospital.

The previous week, ending December 22, GH had actually tied for the top spot in the Women 18-49 demographic with The Young and the Restless, both shows earning a 0.47 in the key category.
