General Hospital Has a Brand-New Nurse Amy

Longtime “General Hospital” fans will never forget gossipy nurse Amy Vining, a fan favorite character for decades.

Amy, who was also Laura’s (Genie Francis) adoptive sister, always had something to say about everything. Shell Kepler played the role from 1979-2002, but sadly passed away from renal failure in 2008.

Now, “General Hospital” is paying tribute to the character by bringing on a new nurse by the name of Amy, played by Risa Dorken, an actress who looks strikingly like Kepler.

While the characters have the same name and look, Dorken was quick to point out to Soap Opera Digest that they are not one in the same.

“I’ve gone back and looked at old footage of her, but I’m not imitating her,” she told Digest. “It’s not supposed to be her, but it’s definitely a wink in her direction.”

Dorken, who debuts next week, admitted to Digest that landing this gig was a dream come true as her grandmother was also a GH fan. However, she was vague about whether Amy would be performing at the Nurses’ Ball. We guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
