Calling herself Carly Roberts, the iconic General Hospital (GH) character first arrived in Port Charles in 1996.
Since then, she’s been Carly Benson, Carly Quartermaine, Carly Corinthos, Carly Alcazar, and Carly Jacks (many of them several times).
And she’s been played by four different actresses. But which one was the fans’ favorite?
Longtime Champion
Laura Wright has played the part the longest, for over a decade starting in 2005, and 78% of you think she’s the best one so far. She won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in 2011 and was nominated again this year.
Wright is the actress who played Michael’s getting shot in the head and going into a coma (which prompted Carly to have grief sex with Sonny), his waking up older, and going to prison.
She played Morgan’s sudden aging, gambling problem, and love triangle with Kiki and Michael, as well as the birth of daughter Josslyn, and her near-death prior to receiving a kidney transplant.
Now that kidney transplant has come back to haunt Carly in an unexpected way. Nelle (Chloe Lanier) isn’t thrilled to have been harvested without her consent, and she’s come to Port Charles to seek her revenge — in exactly the same way Carly did back in 1996.
Nelle made Sonny (Maurice Benard) think they’d slept together (but now Carly knows she didn’). And the circle of life continues.
Runners Up
The first Carly, the one who seduced Bobbie’s (Jacklyn Zeman) husband away, was played by Sarah Joy Brown.
Brown won three Daytime Emmys for the role, and was the one who gave birth to Michael, went crazy, left him with Jason, then came back, hoping to win Jason for herself away from Robin (Kimberly McCullough).
Her plan was kiboshed after she had hate sex with Sonny — and was caught by Jason. She married Sonny for the first time — undress duress.
Actress Tamara Braun played Carly when they married for the second time — of their own volition.
And Jennifer Bransford stepped in for a few months before Wright took over. All together, about 21% of fans concede they were pretty good, too.
