General Hospital Week In Review: The Good, Bad, and the Ugly

It’s been quite a week thanks to the General Hospital serial killer almost killing the chief of staff and taking the life of beloved nurse Sabrina.

The Good
Sadly, mourning horrible news makes for good drama and this was no different. Tracy (Jane Elliot) was incredible as she was strong for everyone – protecting Monica (saving her life at one point!) and helping support Michael through all the steps you have to take when saying goodbye to a loved one. She was everything he needed – she would have put her wallet where her mouth was if he’d chosen to fight for custody (more on that later) and stepped aside when he made his choice. The flashbacks were heartbreaking as we all mourned the loss of someone who had way too much to live for (and story to play out).

The Bad
There were enough spoilers out there that when we saw Carly (Laura Wright) berating Sabrina (Teresa Castillo) so close to her inevitable death, we knew that didn’t spell WIN for her relationship with Michael. Sure enough, after her murder he lashed out at his mother, which was made even more tragic since that cost Michael his strongest supporter to help him through this. He did let her come to the podium during the service when he was losing it – though it did feel a bit odd that Carly didn’t just comfort but instead took over speaking. Really Carly?? Something about that just felt… wrong… since we do know that she meant what she said earlier.

The Ugly
It remains unclear why General Hospital writers decided to let go of huge story potential TWICE. First, there was still so much story left for Sabrina – a possible love triangle with either Joe or Nelle (Chloe Lanier) as the third wheel. Second, why on earth did Michael turn Teddy over to Joe with no fuss? Sure, it’d be a lot easier on Teddy but it’s a dramatically BORING choice for the audience. Besides, what actual evidence did Michael have as to Joe’s fitness to care for a child? One would think he’d become a temporary ward of the court with no parents around.

There are some who still believe Michael (Chad Duell) could actually be the baby’s biological father and not Carlos – plus it would have been a hell of a fight with the Quartermaines by his side. It’s a missed opportunity that simply doesn’t make a lot of sense and we hope this story isn’t resolved just yet.
