General Hospital fans know the drill by now: Anyone who goes up against Sonny – or anyone that Sonny has blessed with the generous gift of his protection – loses. It’s that simple. Ava (Maura West) lost custody of Avery to Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly (Laura Wright). Nelle (Chloe Lanier) lost custody of Wiley to Michael (Chad Duell) and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen). Others have lost their whole lives.
(But not Robin. Robin is only alive because Sonny funded the Stone Cates Memorial Wing at GH. Otherwise, there would have been no HIV protocol for anyone. We know this, because we watched a whole episode devoted to what a sad world it would have been had Sonny never turned to a life of crime.)
The heuristic is so well known that very few Port Charles citizens even bother challenging it. Enter Nelle:
Nelle knows that Carly (Laura Wright) forged Nelle’s signature giving permission for Wiley’s heart surgery (after locking Nelle on the roof so she couldn’t object). Nelle knows that Bobbie (Jacklyn Zeman) then shredded the evidence, and Monica backed her up, claiming they did so have Nelle’s permission, and so did nothing wrong.
Nelle is suing the hospital to make them pay for their crime. Except that Carly is Sonny’s wife, Bobbie is his mother-in-law, and Monica the mother of Sonny’s favorite hitman. Do you think Sonny would let them pay the price for anything Sonny related?
Sure, Sonny is a thug (yes, yes with a heart of gold, we know). And Carly is his moll (who loves with her whole heart). But Monica is a doctor. Bobbie is a nurse. They are medical professionals. What they did was against any and all ethics. Should they actually be held responsible… for a change? General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
