General Hospital Comings and Goings: Recasts And Big Exits

Have any new actors or actresses been cast on the show in contract, recurring, or day player roles? Are any well remembered or beloved stars from other soaps, past or present, about to join the General Hospital fold in surprise new parts? Here’s the latest casting news from the ABC soap.

The week of November 30, 2020

Real Andrews is out as Marcus Taggert, albeit only temporarily. The actor is taking a leave from the soap and will be replaced by Asante Jones starting in mid-December. Jones’ credits include guest spots on Shameless, Hawaii Five-0, and Scandal.

Thanks to GH’s explosion at The Floating Rib, three actors are out. Mark Lawson was killed off as Lulu’s beau, Dustin Phillips, as was Ashton Arbab as Dev Corbin. Lawson and Arbab both joined GH in 2019.

On a more shocking note, Emme Rylan has been written off as Lulu Spencer Falconieri, when her character suffered a traumatic brain injury from the blast. Rylan, who has played Lulu since 2013, took to Instagram to clarify that her GH exit was not her decision. “I did not choose this,” she said simply.

General Hospital History

GH made its debut in 1963 and is the second longest-running daytime soap opera in American history. The longest-running sudser is Guiding Light. While it’s not the longest-running sudser, General Hospital is the longest-running soap opera currently on air.

The daytime drama outlasted other soaps to become a mainstay for many households! From Luke (Tony Geary) and Laura’s (Genie Francis) gripping romance and wedding, to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and his mobster activities, GH knows how to please their viewers.

Bringing the Drama

More than five decades of gripping drama has kept the daytime sudser on the air as other soap operas were axed. It is one of only four remaining soap operas currently on the air. The other three daytime dramas include Days of our Lives, The Young and the Restless (YR), and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB). GH airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for air times.
