The chase is on! General Hospital is bringing back the character of Gregory Chase but he’s no longer going to be played by James Read (ex-Clyde, Days of our Lives). The show’s going in a new direction and has tapped another primetime veteran to take on the role of Finn and Chase’s father.
Gregory Harrison Joins GH
EW.com reports that Gregory Harrison is taking over the role of Gregory. He started taping today and should air in the near future. The backstory has Gregory marrying Jackie after his wife (Finn’s mother) died. Chase’s parents are Jackie and Gregory. There’s been tension between Chase and Finn over his father marrying so quickly after his mother’s passing.
With Finn and Anna (Finola Hughes) set to tie the knot, it’s possible that Gregory could be making the scene in order to attend the nuptials.
Harrison is one of TV’s most familiar faces from the 1980s. He played Dr. George Alonzo ‘Gonzo’ Gates on Trapper John, M.D. from 1979-86. He was tapped to play villainous Michael Sharpe on Falcon Crest in that show’s finale season, 1989-90. Jane Wyman (Angela) had pulled back on her schedule so, it was left to Michael to stir things up.
The series concluded with Michael’s sister Lauren (Wendy Phillips) marrying Michael’s enemy Richard Channing, the biological father of Michael’s son Danny (David Sheinkopf).
Recently, Harrison guested on the ABC sitcom American Housewife. He was a regular on the Hallmark series Chesapeake Shores, playing the character Thomas O’Brien. He appeared in Fresno, the 1986 primetime series that spoofed nighttime serials, as the character Torch.
Among his credits is the memorable TV movie For Ladies Only in which Harrison played John Phillips, who moved from Iowa to New York and worked as a stripper. His leading lady in that movie was Lee Grant (Bare Essence). Harrison’s other series include Logan’s Run, Centennial, Reckless, Ringer, and One Tree Hill.
No word yet on how long Harrison will be sticking around. Soap Hub will bring you the scoop on his first GH appearance as they become available. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for air times.
