Franco and Sam on General Hospital
It’s been years since a crazed Franco (then played by actor James Franco) kidnapped Sam out of her bed on her honeymoon on General Hospital, locked Jason in a sound-proof room with a closed-circuit video monitor, and then did his best to make sure both of them thought he raped her. But, some things never go away–nor should they.
As a matter of fact, Franco made Sam believe she was raped for 1,305 days, and even let her believe Danny was his and not Jason’s. (She learned the truth about Danny before she ever learned the truth about her honeymoon.)
That’s why it seemed so hypocritical to us when Franco was so incensed that the man who raped Liz (Elizabeth Herbst) two decades ago returned to town.
He assumed Tom couldn’t be reformed when he had–even though he used the brain tumor defense to absolve all his crimes.
With a happy event like a baby shower–Sam’s baby shower–taking place today, it was a shock to the eyes to watch Angry Sam (Kelly Monaco) walk into Franco’s art studio soon after watching Happy Sam open her gifts.
Of course, Angry Sam was just Franco’s imagination–but it told us he knew everything he had ever done was just…wrong.
We wondered why Elizabeth’s rapist had been brought back now of all times and realize it wasn’t for Liz at all–it was for Franco to come to terms with his sins and stop making excuses for himself.
While Roger Howarth didn’t play the role back then, it still worked because Howarth’s Franco is so Todd Manning anyway, and nobody can ever forget when One Life to Live’s Todd Manning raped Marty Saybrooke, with Howarth winning an Emmy for his performance that year. It almost seemed like Todd’s day of reckoning as well.
In the end, Happy Sam and Jason (Billy Miller), knowing the baby she’s carrying this time is his, cut open the cake to reveal their baby’s gender. We don’t know the answer, but we couldn’t help feeling like the story had come full circle as Jason and Sam dug in.
