Former All My Children Star Cameron Mathison Joins General Hospital

Ever since the announcement was made that Cameron Mathison’s Home & Family show was coming to an end later this year, soap viewers have been wondering which daytime show would scoop him up first! Now, we know the answer. The actor is coming to General Hospital.

Deadline broke the news that Mathison (ex-Ryan, All My Children) is joining the cast of GH. There were few other details offered up in this casting item.

We do know that Home & Family will wrap up in August after it finishes its ninth season. It’s possible Mathison could appear on GH before then or after. Mathison could be joining the show in a new role, an existing one played by another actor, or as Ryan Lavery, the role he played on AMC from 1998 – 2011.

Years ago, ABC regained the rights to the AMC and One Life to Live characters after the short-lived revivals of the shows aired on The Online Network. Mathison’s former AMC leading lady Rebecca Budig (ex-Greenlee) has appeared on and off as Hayden. If she were to return, GH could possibly pair them together, hoping to capitalize on the couple’s popularity.

Mathison scored Daytime Emmy nominations for his work as Ryan in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2002 and 2004. In 2018, he was named co-host of Home & Family alongside Debbie Matenopoulos (The View). His other reporting/hosting credits include gigs on Good Morning America, Entertainment Tonight, and Extra. In 2008, he hosted the Daytime Emmy Awards on ABC.

While he’s shifted into hosting and reporting, Mathison has continued and will continue to act in scripted series. His Hallmark movies include At Home in Mitford, A Summer to Remember, Very, Very, Valentine, and Love, of Course. The actor’s big-screen credits include the film 54 in 1998, which starred ex-OLTL star Ryan Phillippe (ex-Billy). General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
