Sonny Corinthos is a legendary New York mobster, but alas, he’s a fictional General Hospital character. John Gotti certainly was NOT fictional, but that doesn’t mean Maurice Benard can’t bring him to life.
The life of the Gambino crime family don and his family is about to become a new Lifetime made-for-TV movie with Benard playing the mafia mogul.
Benard announced this plum role in The Victoria Gotti Story on Instagram earlier this week, showing a snap of the cast package provided by the production company. The pic lists him as John Gotti and he seems tailor-made for such a role.
While Benard has played more than just mobsters during his long career, bringing Sonny to life for a quarter of a century had to have prepared him to play the man known as The Teflon Don.
Gotti got that nickname because it seemed the law could never touch him, but New York and federal prosecutors never gave up and finally nailed the crime boss in the 1990s.
This new movie will depict how Gotti rose from New York poverty to be one of the most powerful organized crime bosses in the country.
While there’s no date for the film’s premiere, Soap Hub will keep you informed as we learn more.
General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
