Earlier this year, General Hospital (GH) star Hayley Erin was cast in one of the most talked-about pilots of the season. Now comes word that it will be going to series… but what does that mean for her day job?
Erin won a role in the pilot for Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists back in March, but last night came word that the show was picked up by Freeform with a 10-episode order to ait in 2019, according to EW.com.
The excited actress shared the news with her Twitter followers: “It’s official!! Can’t wait for this adventure with all of you.”
The show also stars Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish from the original series in their roles as Alison DiLaurentis and Mona Vanderwaal.
Additions to the cast include Kelly Rutherford (ex-Sam, Generations), who will play Claire Hotchkiss. Rutherford was also on the Dynasty reboot as Melissa this season.
Information has been kept tight about which character Erin will play. When news of the pilot was released, Soap Hub noted that the actress bears a striking resemblance to Rutherford and could easily be her daughter.
In the meantime, what does this mean for her GH character? Kiki is currently involved in a #MeToo story with her mentor at the hospital, Dr. David Bensch (James DePaiva). The harrassment has been building up, with Kiki keeping quiet so far.
Erin has said she hopes to do both shows: “The way that this works is we’re going to shoot one episode of the show [the pilot]; the network will decide if they want to make it [into] a TV series. Best case scenario is I get to do it all!”
With only 10 episodes being ordered and being part of an ensemble cast, that certainly seems doable. Of course, if things do become too much for the actress and she has to leave, GH does have a couple of options.
Kiki could always reconcile with ex-boyfriend Dillon and leave Port Charles to join him. The actress who originated the role, Kristen Alderson, has expressed interest in returning to the show so that’s a possibility. Or, GH could simply recast with a different actress.
Soap Hub congratulates Erin on her new show and hopes that she’ll be able to do both shows for a long time to come.
