Lynn Herring is best known for playing Lucy Coe on General Hospital — and Port Charles — but the actress has also played the villainess Lisanne Gardner on Days of Our Lives and Audrey Coleman on As the World Turns.
Over the years, Herring has also appeared on shows such as L.A. Law and The Colbys, as well as raise her family. From her beauty queen past to turning down a return to DAYS, here are five fast facts about the General Hospital actress.
In The Beginning
Herring was born September 22 in Enid, Oklahoma, but because her father was in the Air Force she moved around a lot as a child. In fact, she attended 15 different schools in 10 states and Puerto Rico! She attended four different high schools but graduated from a school in Fairfax, Virginia. She went on to attend Louisiana State University.
Beauty Queen
While in college, Herring got involved in beauty pageants. She ended up winning the Miss Virginia title during her sophomore year of college and went on to compete in the Miss USA pageant, where she finished as fourth runner-up.
Los Angeles Can Wait
Herring got interested in acting during her senior year of college and got accepted to three different graduate schools — USC, UCLA, and Loyola Marymount — but decided to go to New York to pursue modeling instead. However, while in New York, she appeared in off-Broadway plays and eventually decided to move to Los Angeles.
Tough Loss
Herring headlined the GH spinoff Port Charles from 1997 until the show’s cancellation in 2003. The end was so devastating for Herring, who loved Lucy and the show so much, that she turned down the opportunity to return to Days of Our Lives. She revealed she was still grieving the loss of Port Charles and wasn’t ready for something else.
Getting Personal
Herring married her husband, actor Wayne Northrop, in 1981. The couple has two sons together, Hank and Grady. While her kids were growing up, they lived in the Topanga Canyon area of Los Angeles so they could have a lot of space and animals. In fact, they had horses, dogs, chickens, and more.
