Finola Hughes currently stars on General Hospital as Anna Devane, a role she has played on and off since 1985. But, along with GH, she’s been on a number of other shows throughout the years, including All My Children, Charmed, and Blossom.
Along with her television career, Hughes has also been in a number of movies since the 80s. She’s also tried her hand at directing and has performed in musicals. From where she was born and raised to her soap star BFF, here are five fast facts about General Hospital star, Finola Hughes.
In The Beginning
Hughes was born and raised in London, England, which is where she first became interested in performing arts. Though she’s been an actress for decades, she got her start in the entertainment world as a dancer. She studied at the Arts Educational School in London.
Cat’s Meow
Hughes originated the role of Victoria the White Cat in the London West End production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Cats back in 1981. Shortly after that, she was also in the sequel to Saturday Night Fever, Staying Alive, with John Travolta in 1983.
Hughes is very close friends with Kelly Ripa, who played Hayley on All My Children when Hughes played Alex and eventually Anna. Not only are they very good pals, but Ripa is also supposedly a very big fan of Hughes’ film Staying Alive and apparently remembers all the lines! Now that’s a good friend.
Witchy Woman
Hughes frequently guest-starred on the very popular show Charmed as the mother of the three witches, Patty Halliwell. Though she was only on the show for less than 10 episodes, she actually received more individual fan mail than any of the other stars, including Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, and Alyssa Milano.
Getting Personal
Hughes married Russell Young in 1992. An artist, Young is known for creating paintings and sculptures. The couple has three kids — Dylan Joseph, Cash Justice, and Sadie Beatrice. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
