Dr. Liesl Obrecht is a character who fiercely guards her private life so it’s impossible to ever truly know her. But actress Kathleen Gati has no reason to keep anything in her life a secret. From her early years as an actress to her myriad voice-over work, here are five fast facts about Kathleen Gati.
Gati’s early filmography consists of cameos and extra roles in films such as Ms. 45, Heaven Help Us, and Mr. Universe. She had a speaking role in TriStar Pictures’ Forever Lulu. The latter movie is most notable for being former daytime star Alec Baldwin’s debut on the silver screen.
Two of Gati’s favorite pastimes are whipping up fresh-baked desserts and preparing a home-cooked meal for her husband. She parlayed those interests into a career during her time living in Europe when she opened both a bakery and a restaurant.
Don’t I Know You From Somewhere?
Obrecht and Sonny Corinthos rarely share a scene together on General Hospital but Gati and Maurice Benard are old acting buddies.
They were both on All My Children at the same time where Benard played Nico Kelly and Gati was Taffy Winslow. Gati remembers her character was an “evil, nasty woman” and she was frequently called a bitch by fans of the show.
Had it not been for enormous fan response (and some deliciously evil work by Gati), Obrecht would have been off GH long ago. The character had been created for only a two-episode arc to menace Kimberly McCullough’s Robin Scorpio Drake and that, as they say, was supposed to be that.
Although Gati is an accomplished actor in both the U.S. and Hungary, she is also well known to video game enthusiasts and listeners of audiobooks. She has voiced characters in two World of Warcraft games, as well as multiple characters in Wolfenstein 2. She has also narrated over 40 books on tape.
