Actress Laura Wright has spent 28 years in front of a television screen and has portrayed popular characters on no less than three daytime dramas. But just how much do the fans know about this talented lady? From her first soap opera role to her very famous gal pal, here are five fast facts about Laura Wright.
Call It Fate
Long before she was cast on a soap opera Wright was a devoted fan. She watched the entire ABC Daytime line up and was an avid soap mag reader. Although the Clinton, Maryland native had aspirations of one day being an actress, she never dreamed she would land a role on one of her favorite afternoon programs.
Time Keeper
Over-sleeping nearly cost Wright her big showbiz break. She laid in bed a little too long on the day her acting coach planned to put a reel together to send to the LOVING casting office. But Wright skedaddled to the studio and managed to film her piece just in time. Upon viewing her tape the half-hour ABC soap called and requested a screen test.
Too Good To Loose
Wright debuted in the role of Ally Rescott on June 25, 1991. Four years later LOVING (ABC’s lowest rated soap) was drastically reworked into a new series called THE CITY. Wright was one of only a handful of actors retained for the new project. And she should count herself lucky.
To explain the changes, half of the LOVING ensemble were killed off one by one in an Agatha Christie inspired who done it. The remaining characters then made a move to New York City and found themselves housed in the same Manhattan apartment building.
Save The Date
For some people, there’s one day of the year that has a special meaning. For Wright, that day is June 7th. She made her LOVING screen test on that day in 1991 and six years later she screen-tested for the role of Cassie Layne on Guiding Light. She, of course, landed the GL role.
A Good Girlfriend
Wright’s best friend and one-time bridesmaid is super personality Kelly Ripa. The two met when Wright was on LOVING and Ripa was performing on All My Children, which filmed in the same studio.
The women became instant besties over a long lunch following Wright’s first day on set. Not long after, Ripa accompanied Wright on an return trip to Clinton where she was given a personalized tour.
