Five Fast Facts About General Hospital Favorite Tamara Braun

She’s brought four fascinating characters to life on three different soap operas across two networks. But just how much do you really know about actress Tamara Braun? Below are five fast facts about this current General Hospital player.

Sworn to Secrecy
Fans collectively cheered when it was announced that Braun was returning to General Hospital in the brand-new role of Dr. Kim Nero back in 2017. But that reaction was a far cry from the position Braun found herself in back in 2001 when she was hired to fill the vacant role of Carly upon the departure of original actress Sarah Joy Brown.

Fearing backlash for the recast, the casting process had been shrouded in secrecy and the powers that be instructed Braun to keep quiet about her hiring. Still, the news got out and Braun remembers that when she reported to the studio she was confronted with a stack of hate mail from irate viewers.

Plenty In Common
Aside from the blatantly obvious — acting talent, blond hair, and good looks – Braun shares some common ground with actress Sarah Joy Brown. Both are practicing Jews and Braun is German for brown.

Side Hustle
Braun was working in the banquet department at the Four Seasons Hotel when she got the call requesting a screen test at GH. Fearing the daytime gig would prove short-lived, she arranged to stay on the hotel’s schedule as an “on-call” employee.

Even after being on the show for six months, Braun still went in and worked shifts whenever they requested her presence.

Location, Location, Location
It may seem strange that after all her years in soapland Braun has won only one Daytime Emmy. But the location of where said Emmy was stored may be even stranger.

The statuette, which Braun won for playing Ava Vitali on Days of Our Lives, was housed in a friends closet for several years before it was reclaimed by its recipient who now displays it in her living room.

The Right Side of History
Though Reese and Bianca’s 2009 wedding on All My Children was certainly not the first same-sex wedding to take place on a soap opera it does still hold a place in television history by being the first to take place on an American daytime serial. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check your listings for airtimes.
