Both fans and the soap world were both shocked last week when we learned Chloe Lanier would be leaving General Hospital (GH) and her controversial role as Nelle.

We say controversial because the character brought with her so much speculation, so much let down, and honestly, so much hate. Not to the actress, who most agree deserved that Emmy she won in April, but towards Nelle herself.

Soap Hub wondered if perhaps Nelle became a character you love to hate and asked if how you feel about her leaving by the end of the summer. Nearly 20,000 of you weighed in.

Just GO Already!
After all the votes were tallied, it we realized that Nelle is not a love-to-hate character, despite the show trying to make her one by pairing her with another – Ava (Maura West). A whopping 90% of you said you’re not upset about Nelle leaving at all and you actually can’t wait for it to happen.

Perhaps it was the fact that pregnancy couldn’t even make her remotely sympathetic or perhaps it was the fact that Nelle seemed to dominate the show for nearly two years at the expense of other beloved and longtime characters.

In fact, pregnancy made Nelle even more sadistic, sociopathic, and twisted. We couldn’t help but be creeped out every time she had an evil little talk with her baby about how she was going to take care of Carly (Laura Wright).

When Ava was pregnant with Avery, we actually felt for her considering Sonny (Maurice Benard) held her hostage just so she could gestate, and when she wasn’t held hostage by Sonny, she had Sabrina (Teresa Castillo) drugging her, and Nina (Michelle Stafford) then ripping the baby from her womb and kidnapping her.

No, STAY!!!
However, sometimes amazing acting is enough to make 10% of you want to keep a character around because you’re going to miss Nelle. She knows how to keep things interesting and you wanted to see her redeemed.

General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
