General Hospital (GH) has always had its tough ladies. Nurse Jessie had to put up with philandering and back from the dead husbands. Laura (Genie Francis) went on the run with Luke while millions of people watched, and Helena put a curse on them that’s reverberating into the next generation.
But how does this crop of leading ladies match up? Thousands of viewers weighed in on who’s got what it takes to survive anything:
The Lady Has Four Faces
It doesn’t matter who’s playing her, 64% of you vote that Caroline Benson, A.k.a. Carly (currently Laura Wright) is the toughest of them all. Considering that the woman beat an attempted murder rap, given birth while shot in the head, and put up with Sonny (Maurice Benard) for going on two decades now, who are we to argue?
Special Forces
She came to Port Charles a disgraced double agent but ended up defending truth, justice, and the American way (despite being English), which is enough reason for 30% of fans to grant Anna (Finola Hughes) the title. Cancer thinks it can take down La Devane? Cancer is going to be begging for mercy by the time this is over.
New Kid on the Block
Ava (Maura West) is a relatively new face in town, but despite numerous allegedly bad-ass mobsters conspiring to bring her down… she’s still standing, thank you very much. For that feat alone, 5% of the audience awards her the nerves of steel.
Spreading the Love
The write-in contingent was strong, here. Tracy (Jane Elliot), Sam (Kelly Monaco), Olivia (Tonja Walker) and Diane (Carolyn Hennessey) all had their cheerleaders. There was even one vote for “Anna and Carly,” as if they were a set. Maybe what we need here is some brackets where the ladies can all go head to head, with only one emerging the ultimate winner. A soap-opera version of March Madness!
