Fans Imagine a Port Charles Without Laura

Just like in the movie It’s a Wonderful Life, where Jimmy Stewart sees what life would be like without him, General Hospital fans are trying to imagine a Port Charles without Laura. Over 2000 of you voted on what that might be like, and here are the results:

You Belong To the City
Sure, there was a General Hospital before Laura showed up. Eleven years of it, in fact. But, let’s be honest, Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis) put it on the pop culture map in a major way, from People Magazine covers to record-breaking wedding episodes.

Now that Luke is gone (seemingly permanently, though, goodness knows, we’ve heard that before), 90% of fans insist Laura stay where she is. GH just wouldn’t be GH without her.

Tell Me a Story
7% of you would like to see her stay, but cage that it really depends on the story she’s given. After all, when Laura first showed up in 1974 (played by a pre-teen named Stacey Baldwin; yes, Genie was a recast!) she didn’t exactly set the screen on fire.

It wasn’t until Laura fell for the man who was trying to seduce her mother, killed him, and later hooked up with good guy Scotty, that fans sat up and took notice. So yes, you’ll watch a Laura without Luke. But the show better make it worth your while.

Think of Laura But Laugh, Don’t Cry, I Know She’d Want It That Way
Finally, 3% of viewers are willing to continue visiting a Port Charles without Laura, though they admit it would be very painful.

On the other hand, the show did previously manage to survive without her for long stretches of time, including highly popular periods that included Robert and Holly, Robert and Anna, Frisco and Felicia, Sean and Tiffany, assorted Quartermaines, assorted mobsters, and more. The show must go on, after all!
