He’s back. Well, almost. Steve Burton resurfaces as General Hospital’s Jason Morgan on Monday, March 4. In anticipation of the big day –- because, let’s face it, it’s major –- here’s everything we know about his blockbuster GH return.
Burton returned to the show’s ABC studio and began filming again on Monday, February 5. He shared the news in an Instagram video as he walked around the set. “Hey, hey. Back at home,” he said, referring to the show he made his first appearance on in 1991; over three decades ago.
See the biggest fan theories about Jason’s return.
What plot can viewers expect surrounding Jason Morgan, the character that was last seen in November 2021, when he supposedly “died” in a tunnel collapse? The soap’s been keeping a tight lid on the story. However, a photo has been released from Jason’s debut scene, and it’s gory. He resurfaces with blood on his hands.
Burton did talk about what’s to come broadly, after he had a chat with GH’s new head writers, Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahey. And, apparently, he was quite impressed with the scenario presented to him. “The storyline is going to be sick. It’s gonna be awesome,” shared the actor via a video on Daily Drama’s YouTube page, adding that the soap would be dropping clues leading up to Jason’s resurrection.
The clues have been plentiful over the past few weeks. Major characters from the past have been mentioned with one thing in common: the name Stone. Viewers have heard a lot about the late Stone Cates (Michael Sutton), the late Morgan Stone Corinthos (Bryan Craig), and the late Jason “Stone Cold” Morgan. Meanwhile, Jagger/John (Adam Harrington) is back in Port Charles investigating the hits on the town’s mob bosses and has referenced his son, who’s also named Stone.
Things really came to a head, when Sonny (Maurice Benard) got Selina Wu’s (Lydia Look) duplicitous henchman to reveal that the mastermind behind the assassination attempts goes by the name… You guessed it, Stone. The revelation stunned Sonny, while viewers wondered which Stone it could be. Could Sonny’s former right-hand man, Jason, actually be gunning for his former best friend? Or is he being used as a pawn in some twisted plot orchestrated by one of the other aforementioned Stones?
Meanwhile, let’s not forget the Cassadine connection to Jason’s disappearance. The tunnel collapse that “claimed Jason’s life” was on their island. So it stands to reason that someone connected to the dastardly family had a hand in rescuing him, but to what end?
Over the years, the treacherous clan has inflicted evil on numerous Port Charles citizens. Remember, Helena (Constance Towers) was the one who conspired with Faison (Anders Hove) to implant Jason’s memories into his twin brother, Drew (Cameron Mathison), and brainwashed him into becoming her soldier. It’s quite likely another Cassadine revved up a new plot that’s just as diabolical, only this time targeting Jason.
