Nathan Parsons is heading back to General Hospital as Holly’s missing son, Ethan, now that his mother is seemingly dead. While the mystery of her death is clearly what lands him on the canvas, what’s extremely more interesting is what his return means for Kristina.
Ethan was Kristina’s (Lexi Ainsworth) first crush, and some might say her true love. At Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) wedding to Brenda (Vanessa Marcil), the couple shared a dance, and Kristina even pulled Ethan aside and told him, “I’m going to marry you one day.” And, later, Kristina compared her and Ethan’s relationship to Jason and Sam’s (Kelly Monaco).
While Ethan’s always had a soft spot for Kristina, he has tended to see her as a sweet, messed-up kid. Remember when she falsely accused him of being the guy who physically abused her, after he found her beaten by Keifer? Eventually, she came clean, and Ethan forgave her. But the lie caused big problems between pals Luke and Sonny; Sonny believing Luke’s son attacked his daughter.
Now that Kristina’s older, wiser, and has explored her sexuality – she’s dated Keifer, married Trey, and had a fling with her female professor, Parker — the timing seems right to reconnect her with Ethan. It’s hard to deny the genuine chemistry between Ainsworth and Parsons. It’s always been flirty and fun, as has the banter between them. Plus, the few kisses they’ve shared as Ethan and Kristina have been sweet, yet with the potential for so much more.
GH fans always rooted for the twosome and were understandably disappointed, when Parsons opted to leave the soap in 2012. It meant the end of a promising love story that showed occasional sparks, yet never really got off the ground. Now, eight years later, the show’s writers have the chance to revisit the coupling and finally get things going between Ethan and Kristina. They need to take it and run with it, or it will be a majorly missed opportunity.
