End the Elections? Is There Too Much Politicking on General Hospital?

One of the best things about elections is that, no matter who wins or loses, at least they eventually end. Not on General Hospital, however.

On General Hospital, the run for mayor is an ongoing campaign. Ned (Wally Kurth) ran against Laura (Genie Francis). Then he ran against Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn).

Then, he ran against Laura again. Then Spencer hacked the election, so Ned is running against Laura… again. And this has all happened in less than a year.

Should GH put a pause on the politicking? Over 10,000 voters did what voters do!

Real-Life Re-Run
Real-life politics is frustrating enough, 46% of you groan. Soaps are supposed to be an escape from the world’s problems.

Just like real-life politicians are vague about what they stand for, soap characters are even worse.

In an attempt not to offend anyone, GH isn’t even tackling any real issues beyond vague platitudes, which makes choosing a side not only impossible but also uninteresting.

Genie’s Judgment
GH wouldn’t have needed to hold yet another election if the show hadn’t terminated Genie Francis’ (Laura) contract last year, 42% of the audience reminds.

If Laura had been in Port Charles the first time, Spencer (Nicolas Bechtel) wouldn’t have… Spencered up everything. Why does this brat get everything he wants, while we, the viewers, have to beg to have our favorites back on the canvas?

Laura, it’s good to see you again. But maybe you should focus a little more on putting your own house in order, instead of being distracted by a run for the big house.

Vote Early, Vote Often
Vote yes, a minority 11% cheer. An election is a nice break from the usual bedhopping and sobbing. At least, here, backstabbing and double-dealing have consequences beyond a tiny group of people.

So keep holding those elections and Spencer, keep doing what you’re doing. We’re entertained!
