Drew’s Plane Crashes… But No One On General Hospital Cares?

Drew Cain was a beloved man on General Hospital: He had women who loved him, a new family who embraced him, co-workers who admired him, and friends who adored him. And yet as each new person learned that he had most likely died in a plane crash, the reactions were more like someone had a dinner date canceled.

This is a daytime drama, with the keyword being drama. Where was the drama?! We get Jason (Steve Burton) not having a reaction to his twin losing his life. (Jason isn’t the most touchy-feely guy, after all.) But the woman they both loved, Sam (Kelly Monaco)?

Sam learned that the father of her child was most likely dead. Sure, she thought Drew (Billy Miller) was Jason and that’s why she loved him, but come on! OK, we can maybe forgive Sam for being in shock. That’s fine. We’ll give her a pass this time. But what about the others?

Kim (Tamara Braun) cared for all of three seconds before she decided that Franco (Roger Howarth), a man she’s never looked at twice but who now houses Drew’s memories pre-2012, was a good enough substitute and just moved on… to bedding him… which we’re sure will result in Oscar 2.0. That other Drew? The actual Drew. Meh, who cares.

What about the other woman who once loved him, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst)? He was also her beloved Franco’s best friend. He was her rock ever when this whole fiasco happened. He was ON the plane to help her get Franco back. Couldn’t spare a tear for Drew, Liz? What the heck?

Mommy Monica (Leslie Charleson)? Too busy wanting to know the Drew she was never around to know rather than mourn the man she grew to love. Pfft. BFF Curtis (Donnell Turner), who dumpster dove with him? Too busy. New partner Jax (Ingo Rademacher)? He’s trying to solidify the business.

Interestingly enough, Nina (Cynthia Watros) seemed the most human with her reaction. She seemed genuinely upset that the man she had interactions with and who had been a pretty good boss was suddenly wiped off the earth. That’s real. That’s what you’d expect.

Sadly, the person who probably would have cared the most, Franco — AKA his one-time brother Bobby — isn’t really around to have a reaction. Drew had saved him once and was trying to do so again. That’s who Drew was — a hero. He was Chatty Jason with a heart. He was beloved. If only someone remembered that. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
