After Steve Burton returned as Jason and Billy Miller’s character was revealed to be Drew Cain, former Navy SEAL and secret twin son of Alan Quartermaine and Susan Moore, Drew became an unlikable character for the first time in Miller’s three years on General Hospital (GH).
He was angry, whiny, possessive, and even threatening. Sure, we’d be angry too if we found out the life we were living was not our own.
And for Drew, he has the added fact that the only life he can even remember is his twin brother’s, but only from about age 19 on because Jason lost his first 19 years in 1996.
So, his bitterness was understandable, but despite having Jason’s memories and acting somewhat like Jason since 2014 (even when he was known as Jake Doe), Drew was suddenly not Jason at all.
Jason never wanted to possess Sam (Kelly Monaco), but Drew sure did. (In fact, Jason won’t even fight for Sam, which is a whole other gripe altogether for a whole other article.)
Jason would never don a suit and sit behind a desk, but Drew sure loves it. (From Navy SEAL to media mogul–ok, we guess.) And Jason would never, ever whine.
But now, Sam is out of his life for the most part and they barely even share scenes together.
As Drew and Sam distanced themselves from one another, we began seeing a whole new character for Miller to flesh out. After all, the entire Drew/Sam pairing was based on the fact that both of them thought he was Jason.
We saw the caring Drew who did all he could to save Franco and watching the brotherly chemistry between Miller and Roger Howarth is so far better than anything we’ve seen between Miller and Burton, whose characters pretty much hate each other.
Now we see the determined Drew who just wants to move on with HIS life and rid his brain of a (half) lifetime of memories that don’t even belong to him.
He has a natural connection with Oscar and even one with Kim (although we’re not sure we see supercouple status between them).
We want to get to know Drew now that he’s stopped being a big, angry, whiner. We’re rooting for anyone to get a hold of that flash drive because when they do and Andre works his magic, we’ll have a whole new character to get to know while he gets to know himself.
