Dominic Zamprogna has left General Hospital (GH) and the role of Dante, which he’s played for nine years now, not with a bang… but with a very GH type of exit.
He’s off to join the World Security Bureau (WSB) and protect the planet from bad guys! Arms dealers, in this case. What wife and/or child dares say no to that? (Ask Felicia. Then ask Maxie. Oh, and Robin, too, while you’re at it.)
He did a quick goodbye tour, and now he’s on his way (guess the WSB’s vetting and training process is pretty instantaneous). Lulu (Emme Rylan) wasn’t thrilled by the development. But how do fans feel about it? Here’s what almost 12,000 said:
You’re Feeling Dissed
For 87% of the audience, Dante’s departure was a massive disappointment. It just wasn’t in character for the cop and family man you’ve grown to love.
Sure, when push came to shove, he’s lied and protected his mobster daddy, Sonny (Maurice Benard). But he was also – we thought – devoted to Lulu and Rocco. And now he’s leaving them for an indefinite period of time?
Did Dante take a minute to think about how that would sound to Lulu, who basically spent most of her childhood abandoned either by Laura (Genie Francis) and Luke (Anthony Geary), when he suddenly decided to leave? That maybe she’d feel like he was being he was suffocated by the marriage and parenthood.
We Need a Hero!
Yes, a minority 13% of you cheer. Dante is joining the pantheons of Robert Scorpio, Frisco Jones, and other Deadbeat Dads for a Good Cause.
You can’t expect him to be Mac (John J. York), the good guy sap always left behind to raise those heroes’ children. Dante is better than that. This is exactly what he should do.
