When Dominic Zamprogna announced his departure from General Hospital (GH) nearly two weeks ago, fans were shocked, but it seems it was not a sudden decision at all.
According to published reports, Zamprogna had thought of leaving the soap halfway into his latest contract. He regretted signing it when Dante became more of a back burner character after Julie Marie Berman left the role of Lulu.
While Zamprogna has nothing but good things to say about Emme Rylan, who replaced Berman, he knew he had to ride out his contract and start a new chapter in his life.
However, the actor did enter new contract negotiations with the soap as an act of good faith and thought maybe he’d change his mind, but he didn’t and instead made the decision to leave.
Although Zamprogna says it was an emotional decision and GH really did want him to stay, his instincts told him it was time to go.
Published reports also say that Dante just simply leaves town to go after the arms dealer who nearly drowned Lulu two years ago, but that Rylan’s Lulu will still remain a pivotal character without her other half.
