You’ve heard of off-year elections? General Hospital (GH) has off-month ones. Instead of November, Port Charles holds their mayoral elections in January.
Ned (Wally Kurth) is running for office. His qualifications are being an ex-rock star turned corporate drone married to a woman prone to having illegitimate children with mobsters.
Laura (Genie Francis) was running for office. Her qualifications were saving the city of Port Charles from the (old) mob and an evil Cassadine weather machine, being catatonic for close to a decade and having divorced a guy who was once mayor for several days — until Laura returned from the dead.
When she bowed out, Laura suggested that Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) should run. But shouldn’t she have asked Felicia (Kristina Wagner) to throw her hat into the ring? Almost 8,000 votes were cast!
I’m With Her!
Felicia’s qualifications for office are hunting for Aztec treasure, marrying a guy who uses the World Security Bureau as an excuse to abandon his family, barely raising her children, and an on-again/off-again relationship with stalwart cop, Mac (John J. York).
Nonetheless, she won the previous off-season mayoral election but was deprived due to a fixed ballot box.
And 71% of you think she should have given this year’s race another go. She won the popular vote before, she can win it again. Especially once voters have taken a good look at the alternative.
Old News
Voters are fickle, remind 28% of, well, voters. The flavor of last month is old news this time around. Felicia’s time has passed, and she shouldn’t enter the race. She risks siphoning off voters from the more deserving candidate and splitting the vote, so that the least popular offering ends up stealing the election.
If Felicia does that, she’ll be persona non-grata. People will be blaming her for everything that subsequently goes wrong, and she won’t be able to dismiss it with her characteristic grin and giggle.
