On General Hospital, Josslyn Jacks, whom fans watched grow up on the show from the time she was affectionately known as “big headed baby Joss,” is standing by her dying boyfriend, Oscar, who arrived in Port Charles as a teen with a surprising connection to an established character. His disease is incurable.
Hmm… does this remind you of anyone? How about Robin (Kimberly McCullough), whom fans watched grow up on the show from the time she showed up in Robert (Tristan Rogers) and Holly’s (Emma Samms) living room, who stood by her dying boyfriend, Stone (Michael Sutton), who arrived in Port Charles as the younger brother of Jagger (Antonia Sabato Jr.) and one of Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) junior thugs in training.
Stone’s disease was incurable, and he died, telling Robin he could finally see her. (His AIDS had left him blind.)
Do Joss (Eden McCoy) and Oscar (Garren Stitt) remind you of this 1990s star-crossed couple? Over 4,000 searched their memories:
Tell It Again
First love? Check. Dying teen? Check? Joss and Oscar definitely remind 80% of you of Robin and Stone. The main difference is, both Robin and Stone were orphans, and although Mac (John J. York) was there for his beloved niece, and Sonny stood by Stone, it wasn’t the same as having supportive family around.
Carly (Laura Wright), Kim (Tamra Braun), and Drew (Billy Miller) have big roles to play in this story, which makes it even more far-reaching and powerful.
Not Even Close
Robin and Stone’s story was powerful and socially conscious, 20% of the audience counters. Joss and Oscar is just plot-driven and shrill.
Oscar is whining and feeling sorry for himself in a way Stone never did, while Joss is a spoiled brat, not the spunky heroine Robin was.
Plus, why do Sonny and Carly need to have a hand in absolutely every single GH story???
General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
