Cynthia Watros Talks Taking Over As Nina On General Hospital

Get ready, General Hospital fans! Cynthia Watros is set to debut as Nina Reeves in just a few days and the character will be like you’ve never seen her before.

As previously reported, GH hired Watros to take over the role of the Crimson magazine editor, previously played by Michelle Stafford, who is returning to her role as Phyllis on The Young And The Restless.

After GH approached Watros, a Daytime Emmy winner for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series for her role as Annie on Guiding Light in 1998, the actress did some research. “I looked into the character,” Watros tells TV Insider. “I fell in love with (Nina’s) vulnerabilities and her strengths.

“Things will bubble up as those secrets start to come out. That’s what I love to play. I said yes very quickly. Nina’s complex and everything I like to play in a character.”

Watros stepped back into the soap world in 2013 on YR as Kelly, a mother who was mourning the loss of her son, Sam. Kelly met Billy (then Billy Miller, who’s now on GH as Drew) in a grief support group. Still, it took doing a few scenes at GH in order to begin feeling comfortable once again with the daytime shooting schedule.

“[A]fter two scenes something happened and, I know this is cliché, but it became like riding a bike,” Watros shares. “Very soon, I thought, ‘I remember this. I remember how to do this!’”

As of now, Nina has yet to learn about Valentin’s (James Patrick Stewart) duplicity or that Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) isn’t really her daughter. (Or is she?) Or who IS her daughter if, indeed, she’s actually alive? There are many secrets left to be revealed and count Watros among those eagerly anticipating them coming to light!

“I am really looking forward to all of it,” Watros enthuses. “Sometimes, we have to be patient for things to come out, but I can hardly wait.”
